Aamir Abbasi, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow

Aamir completed his PhD in 2019 at Paris-Saclay Institute of Neuroscience (Neuro-PSI) affiliated with the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and University of Paris. His thesis research involved development of a closed-loop intracortical brain-machine interface (BMI) setup by combining electrophysiology for motor readout and optogenetics for somatosensory feedback. He used the BMI setup to show a causal role of somatosensory cortical maps in neuroprosthetic learning. His current project looks at the interplay between cerebello-cortical mechanisms of neuroprosthetic learning.

Pierson Fleischer, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow

Pierson graduated from Purdue University with a PhD in computational cognitive science in December 2018. His interest in artificial intelligence led him to pursue cognitive modeling. For his thesis project, he developed a model of rule-set learning and selection. He is currently investigating neural and computational basis of motor skill consolidation in the motor cortex and the cerebellum.

Rohit Rangwani, MS
PhD Student

I completed my MS in electrical engineering at Texas A&M University in May 2020. I am currently a bioengineering PhD student at UCLA and a visiting graduate student at Cedars-Sinai. I am interested in the sensorimotor system, neuroprosthetics and neurorehabilitation and I’ve worked on developing novel noninvasive methods for modulation of proprioception. My current work focuses on the subcortical cerebellar brain-machine interfaces for neuroprosthetic control.

Andrew Fealy, BS
Research Associate I

I graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with a bachelor of science in biochemistry-molecular biology. I am interested in using advanced systems neuroscience techniques to understand the neural basis of motor behavior in model organisms. Ultimately, I aspire to attend medical school, so I can then be able to apply systems neuroscience to improve the quality of medicine.

Ramneet Sandhu
Research Intern

I am an undergraduate student at UCLA, majoring in Neuroscience. My current goals are to gain training in the area of systems and behavioral neuroscience. My career aspirations are to go to medical school, as well as do research in neurodegenerative diseases.

Philip Raj
Research Intern

I am an undergraduate student at UCLA majoring in psychobiology. My research interests are in behavioral kinematic analyses and brain histology. My career interests are centered around medicine and healthcare.

Payton Bechefsky
Research Intern

I am an undergraduate student at UCLA majoring in bioengineering. My research experience involves using microcontrollers and automated behavioral quantification.
